Economic Assessments
Humber Economic Partnership is pleased to announce the release of the Hull and Humber Ports City Region Economic Assessment 2010. This initial assessment seeks to provide content, both spatially and for policy, to shape the city region’s input to the Yorkshire and Humber Strategy. It also forms a part of the evidence base for the development of the Hull and Humber Ports City Region’s own integrated strategy, which is being developed in parallel. It is deliberately pitched at the level of the Functional Sub-Region or City Region.
The Economic Assessment comprises headline analysis of evidence on
1. Geography, People and Settlements
2. Economy, Skills and Business Base
3. Transport and Connectivity
4. Climate Change and Environmental Resource
5. Quality of Life and Equalities
6. Opportunities and Challenges
Further work will take place during the spring and early summer to assess the implications of national and regional policy, and to move towards developing policy options to inform the respective phase for the Yorkshire and Humber Strategy. We therefore welcome your views on the Economic Assessment.

The Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Act places a duty, from April 2010, on all Unitary and County Councils in England and Wales to produce a Local Economic Assessment. HEP is working with all four Unitary Authorities in the city region to help fill gaps in the evidence bases being used for the new Economic Assessments.
The Humber Economic Partnership has recognised the need for their work to have an explicit ‘spatial dimension’ – ie to consider the roles of places, their inter-relationships and their potential for change. Therefore a Sub Regional Spatial Planning Assessment has been produced, led by HEP and Local Government Yorkshire and Humber (LGYH). It is designed to be read with and compliment the content of the FSR Economic Assessment and was used to provide input into the Yorkshire and Humber Strategy's sptial planning workstream.
