Welcome to the first edition of 2010 of the Humber Economic Partnership's monthly email alerting service, Humber Intelligence, which is designed to keep you up to date on the latest research studies, policy developments and intelligence releases affecting the Hull and Humber Ports City Region.

Cities Outlook 2010

This is the third report in the Cities Outlook series released by Centre for Cities and supported by Local Government Association (LGA).  The report discusses the performance of cities during 2009, through recession.  It also discusses the prospects for recovery, and includes a chapter on looking beyond boundaries, to discuss the true economic footprints of cities.  It outlines and discusses the Multi-Area Agreements (MAA’s) and Statutory City Regions.

The report concludes by ranking 64 cities in the UK on a series of economic, social and environmental indicators, in which Hull and Grimsby are included.

Understanding Economic Well-being

This report has been written Globe Regeneration and Rural Innovation and has been released by the Commission for Rural Communities (CRC). It begins by defining what it understands to be economic well-being. It then details 13 best practice case studies, aimed at increasing understanding of the concept of economic well-being at a local level.

Environmental Limits in Yorkshire & Humber: A Guide for Decision-Makers or Four steps to Good Environmental Decisions

This short guide has been written for the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Environmental Forum (YHREF) by Green Empire Ltd and Yorkshire and Humber Environment Trust.  It attempts to answer two broad questions.  What are the environmental limits that matter in Yorkshire and Humber?  How should strategy and decision-making change to take account of those limits?

This report has been released by New Economics Foundation, to test a thesis outlined in its report Growth isn’t Working, written four years ago.  It tests this theory in the context of climate change and energy and argues that indefinite global economic growth is unsustainable.

Deal or no deal? An exploration of the modern employment relationship

Released by The Work Foundation, this report is a part of the Future of HR research programme.  It discusses how the employee relationship is conceptualised in theory, practice and within organisations.  It looks at the employment relationships, the importance of trust in building relationships and employer branding and segmentation.
